Second XI defeat Leeds/Bradford Uni

Keaton Jennings

The Durham Second XI side have defeated Leeds/Bradford University by 32 runs in a 45 over match at Leeds yesterday.
Batting first Durham’s innings didn’t get off to a great start after losing the early wickets of Singh (5) and Muchall (3).
Keaton Jennings and Michael Richardson then took it upon themselves to resurrect the Durham innings and put together a superb partnership showing sensational form with the bat with both making well-earned centuries.
The pair combined for a massive 275 run partnership with Jennings top scoring with 133 not out from 123 (11 boundaries and 2 sixes) and Richardson not far behind with 129 from 124 balls (10 boundaries and 3 sixes).
With Richardson dismissed not long before Durham’s 45 overs were up, Ryan Pringle (6*) joined Jennings at the crease to finish the Durham innings on 296-3.
Leeds/Bradford got off to a flyer with the bat with the Durham bowling attack struggling to contain the home side’s openers who were 91-0 after 12 overs.
Max Morley finally got the breakthrough with Ryan Bousefield taking the second wicket to halt them up at 101-2.
A slight rain delay also put things on hold and the break favoured Durham who took a handful of wickets after the break to slow the Leeds/Bradford run chase down. Morley struck again alongside Mitch Claydon and a run out to Bousefield to have the University team 236-5.
Morley then claimed another two wickets to finish with figures of 4-33 as Leeds/Bradford ended their 45 overs on 263-8 giving Durham a 32 run win.

Coaches Comments: Jon Lewis
‘It wasn’t our finest performance but a win none-the-less’
‘Our extras column (30 including 16 no balls) is a fair indication of a display which lacked a bit of discipline’.
