Having already proved a pivotal part of the T20 side, Usman Arshad has his sights set on becoming equally instrumental in Durham's four-day outfit in 2016.

That Arshad was among the likes of James Faulkner and Shaun Tait in the T20 leading wicket takers underlines his qualities in the shortest format, with 22 scalps in 13 T20 matches.

He has specialised how to bowl inside the so-called 'death' overs of a T20 game, a notably difficult task to undertake in such pressurised circumstances.

The Championship campaign proved more of a frustration for the Bingley-born all-rounder. He did feature sparingly and scored a maiden first-class half-century at Hampshire, but a side strain in the same fixture ruled him out for the remainder of the season.

Initially invited for a trial by Geoff Cook after a chance meeting in Dubai, Arshad joined the Durham Academy and quickly impressed. He went on to captain the 2nd XI in a number of games before making his first team bow against Surrey.

He will look to compliment his undoubted white ball skills with more regular appearances in the four-day format in 2016.
